Garça-real

(Grey heron)

Scientific name: Ardea cinerea

It is the most abundant and widespread heron in Europe. It has a length of around 95 cm, a wingspan of 185 cm and a weight of 1.6 to 2 kg. It can live for around 25 years.

It feeds mainly on fish, but does not disdain batrachians, reptiles, small mammals, insects or terrestrial and aquatic molluscs. It digests bones well, but regurgitates rodent hair in the form of balls.
