The song thrush is a medium-sized bird, 20-23 cm long, with a wingspan of 33-36 cm and a weight of 50-107 g.
In Portugal, it feeds mainly on olives, but also on invertebrates , especially earthworms and snails, smashing the shells by hitting them against a stone, berries and fruit. It is the most common of the various thrush species found on the Portuguese mainland and the species most frequently killed by hunters.
