Rola Turca
(Eurasian collared dove)Scientific name: Streptopelia decaocto
The Eurasian collared dove is one of the great colonizers in the bird world. Its original range was limited to temperate regions from south-eastern Europe to Japan. In the 20th century, however, this bird expanded its distribution throughout Europe. It even breeds in regions such as Scandinavia and north of the Arctic Circle. It arrived on the Iberian Peninsula in 1960 and in Portugal in 1974. Since then, it has spread and multiplied very rapidly.
