The gray heron, also known as the great white egret, is a bird species from the order Pelecaniformes. It is very common and widespread in Eurasia and Africa.
There are four subspecies worldwide. In Central Europe, it is represented by the nominate form Ardea cinerea cinerea.
The grey heron reaches a body length of 90 to 98 centimetres and usually weighs between 1 and 2 kilograms.
