Pinguim-Imperador
(Emperor penguin)Scientific Name: Aptenodytes forsteri
Population declines of 50% in the Adélie Land region (French Antarctic) were observed due to increased adult mortality, especially among males, during an abnormally warm and prolonged period in the late 1970s, which resulted in decreased ice cover. On the other hand, the egg incubation success rate decreased when the ice shelf over the sea increased. The species is therefore considered to be very sensitive to climate change.
